VO2LMC On Site

VO2LMC was moved to the site on Smokey Mountain on Monday, July 24 with help from VO2NS (Naz), VO2PC (Ray), VO2GO (Glen) & Cory (Our Driver & general help).

The location was prepped by leveling out the pallet with Rocks & placing the repeater enclosure on the pallet next to Lighting pole which or antennas are mounted to. For our 150 ft underground flexible conduit, a trench was dug from the repeater location across the road to the Chair Lift shack where a breaker was installed by the electrical crew (VO2PC) to feed the repeater with 120 VAC.

Antennas were installed for VHF, 900 MHz as well as 2.3GHz antennas for the links to VO2WL club building & VO2KG site on Emeril Mountain.

The entire install took aprox. 5 hours and other than a few flies ( A LOT of flies actually 🙂 it was a nice day, even a bit too hot at times when in the direct sunlight.

After the repeater was turned on, an an issue with the Receiver was quickly apparent. Some brief on-site troubleshooting didn’t prove successful & members of the repeater crew had to be back in town, so we packed up & left the site with plans to do some remote testing.

The old LMC analog station is still active on Round Hill, but will be disabled at times (possibly for hours), while remotely troubleshooting the new repeater. If not testing on the new repeater the Round Hill VO2LMC station will be activated, and the new station on Smokey deactivated, but some interference may be experienced.

All functions of the new repeater are operating properly except for the unusual Rx issue which looks like it will most likely require more on-site work & troubleshooting.

Updates will be posted here as we progress.
